Inside the key: CBA was Paul’s second-best effort this week

-

It has been a busy week for the Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.

As president of the NBA players association he was heavily involved in the negotiations that went down to the wire and resulted in a seven-year CBA with the league.

He’s also had one of the great games of the year, piling up 20 points, 20 assists while committing no turnovers in a win over New Orleans. It’s first 20-20-0 game in the NBA since 1983.

The weird Warrior world: Good NBA teams avoid long losing streaks however they can, finding a way to not drop three or four games in a row.

Great NBA teams do what the Golden State Warriors are doing.

The Warriors have now gone a league-record 111 regular-season games without losing two in a row.

It’s the longest streak by far, the second best was 95 in a row by Utah from 1997-99.

Up in the rafters: They may have to take the jersey off Tim Duncan’s back when they retire it at San Antonio’s ATT Center on Sunday afternoon.

Duncan’s familiar No. 21 will be taken out of circulation after the ceremony — unless he wants to wear it.

And that could be any day at practice, as the now retired Spurs legend stopped by a workout this week for a little one-on-one game against Pau Gasol, keeping himself in some semblance of shape while getting some work in. Looking for a win: For eight seasons, Carmelo Anthony basically was the Denver Nuggets before working his way out of town to the Knicks.

He’ll be back in Denver on Saturday still looking for his first win at the Pepsi Center as a visiting player. In his time with New York, the Knicks are 0-4 in Denver.

Growling Grizzlies: One of the biggest surprises of the season so far has been the Memphis Grizzlies.

They’ve overcome an injury to star point guard Mike Conley, moved Zach Randolph to the bench for a while and have not missed a beat.

They are 7-0 on the second night of back-to-backs, they were fifth in the West with an 18-9 record going into play Thursday night and can slay the giants.

They are the only team so far this season to beat both Golden State (by 21 points) and Cleveland (by eight on Wednesday night). Doug Smith
