Hydro bills becoming a colossal charade

-

Re PM refuses to provide cover for Wynne, Jan.

14 Let’s have a show of hands: How many Ontarians reading this assumed that the much-touted 8-per-cent provincial rebate on your Hydro bill was the 8-percent portion of the HST? Well, weren’t we a bunch of suckers?

My Hydro bill arrived today, and when I saw my 8-per-cent provincial rebate, I thought there must have been an outbreak of innumeracy in the Hydro billing office. On total electricity charges of $72.06, the “8-per-cent Provincial Rebate” was 76 cents. The HST came to $9.37, and you can quickly calculate that 8 per cent of $9.37 is — voila — 75 cents!

So, in reality, 8 per cent of 13 per cent is a 1 percent rebate on your electricity charges. What a colossal charade! (The Rev.) William S. Hesselgrave, Toronto Kathleen Wynne and her Liberal government have only one choice left. They have to cancel the Green Energy Act and return hydro prices to where they should be — you pay for what you use — period.

When people start complaining that they have to choose between “heat or eat” and American-owned manufacturing companies hide their hydro bill from head office in the states in the fear that they will close their Canadian company — there is something drastically wrong.

Apparently the Liberals never did see and still do not see the damage they have caused Ontario. Of course there is no mention at all of all their boondoggles that have cost us billions and billions of dollars. Taxpayers should have a right to stop this now. Albert O’Connell, Cornwall
