Bloemen blazes to World Cup gold
BERLIN— Canadian speed skater TedJan Bloemen earned his first career 5,000-metre victory on the World Cup circuit Saturday. The Calgary skater edged New Zealand’s Peter Michael by 0.81 seconds. Said the 30year-old Bloemen: “This gold medal win is really great going into the world single distance championships.” It was his third medal of the World Cup season, matching his total from last year. He finished fifth in the 5,000 at the last world championships.
