Ford GT supercar barges into Ferrari territory
The performance specifications for the new 2017 Ford GT supercar have finally been confirmed after what seems like ages of being left in the dark.
The twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 found in the Ford GT produces an SAE-certified 647 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque, with 90 per cent of peak torque available from 3,500 r.p.m. Linked to a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch automatic transmission, the American supercar will top out at 347 km/h, certifying it as the fastest production Ford ever.
Additionally, the GT’s dry weight has been verified at 1,385 kilograms, making it heavier than the McLaren 675 LT and Ferrari 488 GTB, which tip the scales at 1,327 kg and 1,369 kg dry, respectively. Ford places its power-to-weight ratio at 2.14 kg/horsepower.
Thanks to its active aerodynamics and suspension systems, the rear-wheeldrive Ford GT, built by Multimatic in Markham, lapped the five-kilometre circuit at Ontario’s Calabogie Motorsports Park faster than the 675LT and the naturally aspirated Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The GT’s quickest lap was a 2:09.8, placing it a full second ahead of the McLaren’s best lap of 2:10.8. The Ferrari was another two seconds behind with a fastest lap of 2:12.9.
