This is the story of two unlikely women who forge a family. Vera arrived at the old farmhouse in East Prussia as a 5-year-old refugee 60 years ago. As the story opens, her niece, Anne, and her young son arrive at the farmhouse after fleeing a Hamburg neighbourhood where Anne has never felt she belonged.
