Brian Mulroney’s ‘crooner diplomacy’

Re It’s ‘Irish Eyes’ diplomacy for Mulroney and

Trump, Feb. 20 I am happy to see that former prime minister Brian Mulroney is utilizing his talents to woo Donald Trump at a recent cancer fundraiser.

The expression “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” may hold true, but in the case of Trump, Mulroney obviously knows the power of song is a better way to flatter a personality that thrives on audience adulation, since it has been said that his presidency may be run in the form of campaign trail politics and tactics. Trump seems to thrive on post-election rallies to boost his beleaguered presidency and low favourability ratings. We Canadians may now have the opportunity to add to the political lexicon a new expression — “crooner diplomacy” — following Mulroney’s performance, which apparently had a positive effect on Trump. Frank J. Marchese, Toronto Good to see our former prime minister, aptly nicknamed “Lyin’ Brian” for his constant lying when in power, is the one dealing with “alternate facts” Trump and singing his way into his heart.

They are a perfect match. It seems Trudeau thinks this is somehow appropriate politics by sending one famous liar to deal with the current famous one.

This should bode well for Canada. Scotty Robinson, Toronto Why the fuss about Brian Mulroney visiting Palm Beach? Everyone loves a chance to go to the circus. Ernie Ilson, Mississauga
