Spence’s fraudulent actions diminish work of all teachers

-

Re Damning report slams Spence for ‘egregious breach of trust,’ March 3

Former Toronto Catholic school board trustee Rob Davis proves in his comments on Chris Spence’s teaching licence revocation why trustees need to focus on the management side of education and not the education side. It is irrelevant to Mr. Spence’s case whether or not students, parents or other teachers testified at his hearing. Their testimony would have been irrelevant, as the only issue was whether or not, as a serial plagiarist, Mr. Spence defrauded his way to his position as director of education.

I have been teaching high school for 39 years. Driving home to young minds the importance of academic honesty is always a challenge. Mr. Spence’s deliberate, fraudulent actions diminish my work and the work of all teachers everywhere. Who cares if he can find a few impressionable kids and some friends who will tell the college he is a nice guy? He’s a cheat and that’s all that matters. Tony Delville, Stoney Creek
