Wasting away in Margaritaville

Jimmy Buffett plans to open an ‘active adult community’ in sun-filled Daytona Beach

- DAVID J. NEAL MIAMI HERALD

MIAMI— Soon, senior citizens really will be able to spend their final years wasting away in Margaritaville, nibblin’ on sponge cake and searching for lost shakers of salt. And it’s Jimmy Buffett’s fault. Margaritaville Holdings, the singer’s company named after his iconic tune, plans on opening an “active adult community” in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Spaces at Latitude Margaritaville, starting in the low-$200,000 range, will go on sale this fall, the company said in announcing the project.

The senior community logically follows Margaritaville resorts and hotels and restaurants.

After all, fans of Buffett, known as Parrotheads, have been skewing older for a while now.

The partnership with developer Minto Communities, being a Margaritaville venture, is expected to include not only standard South Florida amenities, but also a bandshell, a private beachfront club and restaurants, including one with “Margaritaville food and beverage concepts.”
