Ninety-nine-point-nine per cent of Star readers understand the expression “backstabbe­r” or “backstabbi­ng” and that it does not refer to literally stabbing or killing someone, anymore than “the night of the long knives” during the repatriati­on of the Constituti­on meant people were literally going to kill former premier René Lévesque.
