Stop blaming Harris for Liberal failures

-

Re Ontario urged to tackle gender pay gap,

April 11 In a matter of days, it will be the 15th anniversary of Mike Harris leaving the premier’s office. Kathleen Wynne is the third occupant of that office since Harris resigned and more than 4,900 days have passed since the election that brought the Liberals to power.

Isn’t it about time that you stopped blaming Mr. Harris for things that the provincial government does, or doesn’t do, today?

The Harris government may have cut funding to the Pay Equity Commission, but if the Liberals didn’t restore the funding in the budgets of 2004 through 2016, surely responsibility for the current state of funding is theirs and no one else’s? Michael Wakefield, Hamilton

This report is incomplete and a divisive disservice to the working poor. We can help women more by reducing inequality and reducing the gap between the classes for everyone.

We can expand the earned income tax credit, increase the minimum wage, lower tuition and provide pharmacare, day care and affordable housing. Women would benefit disproportionately.

We should unite to reduce inequality and increase opportunity for all. Joseph Polito, Toronto
