Statues should join forces

-

Re Artists don’t get to dictate how society should perceive their public art,

Whyte, April 13 I totally agree with Murray Whyte but the artist has a valid point as well. The addition of the Fearless Girl statue has changed the meaning of the Charging Bull statue.

Both statues are beautiful in their own right and would make a strong statement if they were displayed separately. However, I propose a solution to keep the statues together but change the meaning one more time. Put the Fearless Girl beside the bull. This nullifies the menacing and negative nature bestowed on the original sculpture by the defiant girl. The two subjects are now partners facing the world together, not enemies — both strong and fearless and ready to face the world head on.

Perhaps this is not what either artist intended but I think it would enhance both sculptures in a positive way and perhaps satisfy all parties. Ken Fitzsimmons, Toronto
