Province must protect abortion clinics

Re Ottawa police won’t protect abortion clinic despite pleas, Mallick, April 19

Heather Mallick calls people who intimidate private citizens and threaten their physical safety at an Ottawa abortion clinic “protesters” and “demonstrators.” What they are doing is nothing less than harassing and terrorizing.

An assembly with the purpose of inciting fear through harassment and interfering with the rights of individual citizens has no place in a democratic society. Regardless of your opinion of abortion, you must recognize that this practice is not acceptable in any setting, let alone a health-care setting, where patients deserve respect, dignity and privacy.

It’s time for the province to put its money where its mouth is on gender equality and ensure the protection of all abortion clinics. Dayna Austin, Hamilton would find 173bn barrels of oil in the ground and just leave them there.”
