Olympian Gomez walks away at 29

Canadian race walker Inaki Gomez announced his retirement. The twotime Olympian from Vancouver joined forces with Evan Dunfee, Ben Thorne and Mathieu Bilodeau to win silver at last year’s world race walking team championsh­ips. He also finished second behind Dunfee in the 20-kilometre event at the 2015 Pan Am Games. Gomez, 29, retires as the Canadian record holder at 5,000 metres, 10K and 20K. “As I step away, I remember and cherish what this sport has given me,” Gomez said.
