Warner golden in tune-up for worlds

GOETZIS, AUS­TRIA— In his fi­nal in­ter­na­tional de­cathlon be­fore the world cham­pi­onships, Damian Warner won the Hypo Meet­ing for a third time Sun­day. Warner, from Lon­don, Ont., earned 8,591 points over 10 events, edg­ing the Nether­lands’ Eelco Sint­ni­co­laas (8,539) and Ger­many’s Rico Freimuth (8,365). The 2016 Olympic bronze medal­list won the 110-me­tre hur­dles and held off Sint­ni­co­laas by fin­ish­ing sev­enth in the 1,500 me­tres. Pierce LePage of Whitby, Ont., was 17th with 7,894 points.
