Praise for deserving teacher
Re A matter of principal, May 27
Congratulations to the Star for recognizing this very deserving man, Monday Gala.
I taught at C.W. Jefferys from 1999-2009 as ESL Department Head and then Acting Curriculum leader and knew Monday well, as a colleague. I witnessed the devastating impact of Jordan Manners’ death on the school and subsequent troubles over the next year. It took its terrible toll on both students and staff.
Now, it is wonderful to read about all of Monday’s innovations and their effect on the school. For many of the students in that area, school is the only escape route out of poverty. Also, for very many, it used to be the only safe place. Now, Monday and his staff are working hard to make it both safe and productive again.
I am proud to know you, Monday. Catherine Brown, Toronto
