New universal app will replace Toronto Star Touch

-

We listened to you — and we have acted.

After launching Toronto Star Touch, our tablet edition, in 2015, we were surprised by the low numbers of readers who downloaded the tablet app and used it on a daily basis. Readers told us that many of the features they enjoyed were missing on Toronto Star Touch.

In response to feedback, we are announcing that the Star will launch a new universal app that operates both on smartphones and tablets and that offers more of the features that you, our readers, have told us you want: breaking news, constant updates, more content, easy searches and navigation and the ability to share items much more easily on social media.

Also, the universal app will allow readers to enjoy the same user experience with the Star on their smartphone as they do on their tablet device. The app will replace Toronto Star Touch. The last edition of Star Touch will be July 31.

The app is ready now for downloading by smartphone users from the App Store and Google Play. It will be available for tablet users by the end of July.

We understand that some customers do like the “daily edition” experience of the tablet app, so we will be announcing a great offer soon for people who prefer to read the Toronto Star on our replica edition. We will reveal details of the offer in our print edition as well as on our website, thestar.com, and in our digital editions.

We’ll inform you when the new universal app and the Replica Edition App are available to download to your tablet.

We hope you will enjoy whichever app suits your needs. John Boynton President and CEO, Torstar Publisher, Toronto Star
