Ottawa should focus on building a policy on peace

Re Canada puffs out its war chest, June 8 The discussion on the amount of money the Trudeau government plans to spend on increasing the numbers of soldiers and armaments misses the central point of the “new” defence policy. The Liberal government has bought into a more aggressive role for the North Atlantic Treaty Organizati­on and making the Canadian military more suited to “war fighting” in overseas theatres. Still on the table is the issue of Canada officially joining the U.S. “Ballistic Missile” system.

This “new” policy will only exacerbate tension in the world. Canada very much needs a peace policy. Ed Lehman, Cupar, Sask.
