Farah murder suspect arrested

- ALINA BYKOVA STAFF REPORTER

Toronto police announced Thursday that an arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Samatar Farah, 24, who was found shot to death on April 15 on Chester Le Blvd., near Finch and Victoria Park Aves.

Police have arrested and charged Taufiq Stanley with first-degree murder. Stanley is also facing several firearm-related charges and three counts of attempted murder in connection with an incident that occurred on April 13, in which three people from the Chester Le neighbourhood were shot.

Trevor Barnett was also arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder in connection with the April 13 incident, said Det. Jason Shankaran of the homicide unit.

Shankaran said police are looking for two more suspects and have issued warrants for the arrest of Alexander Fountain, who is wanted for murder and three counts of attempted murder, and Sha- quan McLean, who is wanted for three counts of attempted murder.

The arrests and warrants are the result of information collected from CCTV footage in the area of Chester Le Blvd. and the execution of 11 search warrants in Toronto and Ottawa.

The investigation began with Farah’s murder of April 15, but was then linked to the shooting incident on April13, Shankaran said.

The four accused are residents of the Parma Court housing complex and are alleged to have a feud with some residents from the Chester Le neighbourhood, according to Shankaran.

Shankaran would not elaborate on the nature of the feud, but said that Farah was in no way connected to it.

“The only thing he did was be a resident of Chester Le Blvd.,” said Shankaran.

He also said that calling Farah’s death “tragic” was inappropriate. “Tragic would mean somehow he had something to do with his death,” which is false, Shankaran said.
