Blame Conservatives for Duffy farce

-

Re Re: Duffy got a raw deal — and that could cost us, Delacourt, Aug. 25 Well, well, the old Duff is back at the public trough. Yes, he was exonerated by the court, but only because the Senate spending rules were so lax and vague that a case could not be made against him — probably because the Senate never thought anyone assigned to a position requiring trust, honesty and decency would have such low moral values. Duffy was exonerated by the court but certainly not by the public.

So give Duffy his $7.8 million and tell him to bugger off. And do the same for Pamela Wallin. Barbara Jean-Venne, Mississauga Not so fast! We, the Canadian public, had no part in Duffy’s raw deal. The farce that was the Duffy scandal was written, produced and directed by the Conservative Party of Canada. The cast of characters were the elite of the Conservative Party and the sole beneficiary was to be the Conservative party. It was entertaining, but not worth $7.8 million.

My advice is this: First, to Senator Duffy, sue the Conservative party. Second, to the Conservative party, open your war chest and make a deal with Duffy. You have a new leader and are trying to take a new direction, but this trial will refresh our memory of your farcical performance. And if we pay the bill, you might not form a government until after the Liberals have paid off the debt. Keith Parkinson, Cambridge
