JENNIFER ALLFORD SPECIAL TO THE STAR
Pack your woollies and head out to enjoy the best winter has to offer in the woods in the vast Mauricie region, about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City. There are lots of activities to get your blood pumping outside and plenty of roaring fires to enjoy at the end of the day, after you’ve stashed your skis for the night.
Bunk in an oTENTik at La Mauricie National Park
You bring your bags on a toboggan to your cosy oTENTik, a half-cabin, half-tent little lodging in the park. There’s a wood box out front, fully stocked with kindling and logs to stoke up the fire at bedtime. Before you climb into your sleeping bag for the night, put on a tuque, go outside and lie on the picnic table. Listen hard to the silence and gaze dumbfounded at more stars than you ever thought possible. Details: pc.gc.ca
