Toronto, I Love You/La Grande Jatte Watch this if: You think you know Toronto, Georges Seurat or improv.

Improv companies are constantly trying new formats and premiering new shows, so it’s a treat to revisit some past hits.

Toronto, I Love You and La Grande Jatte were two beloved formats that were too short-lived, so they’re being revived briefly to begin the fall season.

Toronto, I Love You is drawn from the audience and cast’s real-life favourite city spots, and La Grande Jatte, taking inspiration from the Georges Seurat painting, zooms in on the private reality of everyday life.

Both shows, directed by artistic director Julie Dumais, may change the way you think about what unscripted comedy can look like.

Wednesday to Sept. 23, Bad Dog Theatre, 875 Bloor St. W. Miss Watch this if: You want to support indie theatre and indie spaces. Toronto, I Love You La Grande Jatte

A brand new independent theatre space, the Assembly Theatre in Parkdale, is about to head into its inaugu- ral season with the first production of a new script by one of its founders and resident companies, Unit 102, a reliable indie company with growing mainstream cred.

Miss is a drama by Michael Ross Albert (whose play Tough Jews earned a Dora nomination last year for Outstanding New Play in the independent division) that explores three characters involved in a traumatic event at a boarding school.

Thursday to Oct. 1, Assembly Theatre, 1479 Queen St. W. FFDN at Union Watch this if: Your commute needs a pick-me-up.

Is there a place in Toronto more frightful than Union Station at rush hour? We don’t want to know.

Thankfully, Fall for Dance North — a dance festival taking place in early October — is occupying Union’s West Wing at peak times with free music and dance performances, including a new piece by choreographer Robert Binet called Fordlandia, a concert by John Kameel Farah, open rehearsals and public classes.

At the very least, it will convince you to stretch before starting the commute home.

Saturday to Oct. 7, Union Station, 65 Front St. W.
