Federal government trying to fix what isn’t broken

-

Re Scheer has fallen for Liberals’ tax trap,

Opinion, Sept. 24 Jaime Watt is the executive chairman of a large corporation.

He is of the Morneau mould: rich, with access to stock options and other benefits not affected by the Trudeau tax proposals.

Why are those who favour the Trudeau tax proposals those who have pensions and benefits paid by others? Small business owners, professionals and farmers work hard — much longer than the standard 40-hour work week. They complied with existing tax laws put into place by previous governments, ostensibly to promote growth and create jobs in the economy. If existing tax laws failed in this regard, then by all means change them — without promoting class warfare and referring to selected groups as tax cheats and tax evaders.

Look under the surface and you will find that Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Morneau’s riches are under the control of family trusts and private corporations that are not affected by the federal tax proposals. Fairness demands that they should be. Robert Yufe, Toronto
