Technology could save kids

-

Re A trail of questions in toddler’s tragic death, DiManno, Sept. 23 How many more children have to die before the issue of children being left in their car seats is addressed? I can’t help but wonder why either car companies or infant-car-seat manufacturers have not created some sort of safety warning that there is a child still in the car after the driver has exited. If car companies can create driverless cars, why can’t they come up with a system that warns that there is still a child in their car seat?

It’s easy to blame the caregiver in these situations, but anyone can get preoccupied and go on automatic pilot. This caregiver is not a terrible person who did this on purpose, but the consequence of her inattention is that a child has lost his life. Surely there is something that can be installed in cars to remind people that there is still a child in the car.

Let’s not let another child lose their life this way. Anne Sayers, Scarborough
