Arena not the place to debate politics

Re NFL chooses sides in divisive world of Trump, Arthur, Sept. 25 The Pittsburgh Penguins got it right: “any agreement or disagreeme­nt with a president’s politics, policies or agenda can be expressed in other ways.”

Athletes who choose to bring politics onto the playing field share in the divisivene­ss of such action and should be held accountabl­e. Regrettabl­y, they have marred one of the few “stages” left that can bring people together in a shared culture. If they had thought this through, I’m sure they would have concluded that the “arena” is not the place to debate politics. Donald Cangiano, Oakville
