Black people not always jailed longer

-

Re Race matters when awaiting trial, data shows, Oct. 23 The subheading on this front page article, “Black people are jailed longer than white people facing similar charges, provincial records reveal” is both misleading and inflammatory.

An examination of the data presented in the article in fact, reveals that only in two categories are Black people jailed significantly longer. In other categories, white people, Southeast Asians and West Asian/Arabic people are jailed longer than Black people. None of the data on Indigenous people is provided, although I suspect they remain in custody the longest. Greg Sheehan, Mississauga
