Hip, Lightfoot albums win Heritage Prize
Classic albums by the Tragically Hip, Gordon Lightfoot and the Band are among those named to the 2017 Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize honour roll, it was revealed Tuesday morning.
A sister award to the Polaris Music Prize that aims to recognize worthy Canadian musical achievements that predate Polaris’s 2006 inception, the Heritage Prize added eight more albums to its Cancon “hall of fame.” Four were selected by a jury of 11 Canadian music writers and broadcasters; four by an online vote.
Making the cut, by decade, on the jury-voted side were: the Band’s The Band for 1960-1975; Glenn Gould’s Bach: The Goldberg Variations (19761985); Eric’s Trip’s Love Tara (19861995); and k-os’s Joyful Rebellion (1996-2005).
The publicly voted victors were Lightfoot’s Lightfoot! (1960-1975); Harmonium’s L’Heptade (19761985); the Tragically Hip’s Fully Completely (1986-1995); and Let it Die (1996-2005) by Feist, the 2012 Polaris Music Prize winner. Ben Rayner Samantha Jones and has “never been friends” with Sex and the City co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis or Cynthia Nixon.
This Zoo is now closed to visitors. CBS is cancelling the summer drama after a ratings drop in its third season. Based on the novel by James Patterson, the series was about a world where animals turn on humans.
Mark Wahlberg hopes God will forgive him for his turn as a porn star in the 1997 film Boogie Nights. Wahlberg told the Chicago Tribune that he’s made “some poor choices” in the past and had prayed for forgiveness for Boogie Nights.
Ewan McGregor and his wife of 22 years, Eve Mavrakis, have quietly called it quits and now he looks to be romantically involved with Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. McGregor, 46, and Mavrakis, 51, split in May, the same month Winstead, 32, split from writer husband Riley Stearns.
Elton John will receive the Harvard Foundation’s Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award on Nov. 6 for his philanthropic efforts to fight HIV and AIDS. The Elton John AIDS Foundation announced it Tuesday. Star staff, wire services
