Kicking around a big Club World Cup

FRANKFURT— A member of FIFA’s ruling council says there are proposals for a 24-team Club World Cup to be played every four years from 2021. Reinhard Grindel, who is also president of the German soccer federation, wrote on his Facebook page that FIFA is exploring playing the 24-team Club World Cup in June 2021 over 18 days, starting with eight teams split into three groups. A seven-team Club World Cup is staged annually every year in December.
