Where in Canada will Neil Young play?

- Debra Yeo

Will Omemee, Ont., population about 1,200, be the site of a secret Neil Young concert being livestreamed at CTV.ca on Dec.1at 8 p.m.?

That was the speculation after it was announced that the Canadian rock superstar would perform somewhere in Canada, which is also the name being given to the show. The acoustic concert will stream globally on Facebook.

In a Facebook post Young, 72, said he will be “going to my town” on Dec.1. Young spent seven years in the Kawartha Lakes community of Omemee as a child, but he was born in Toronto and also lived in Winnipeg and Pickering.

Billboard Magazine reported that holds have been put on a number of 200-person-capacity venues across Canada that Young is fond of and he will choose one this week.

The Peterborough Examiner appeared to throw cold water on the Omemee idea, saying several of the likeliest spots weren’t being held for Young, although it hadn’t got a response from Scott Young Public School, named after Neil’s father.

Billboard also said that Young’s girlfriend, actress Daryl Hannah, will direct the concert, which is being produced by Bell in partnership with Young’s Shakey Pictures.

Dec. 1 was already a significant day for Young fans. That’s when the star will make his entire archives available for streaming via his master quality Xstream by NYA service — with all content free at launch — and when he releases his new studio album, The Visitor, which was recorded with the band Promise of the Real.
