MACARONI ANGEL ORNAMENTS BRING BACK GOOD MEMORIES

-

In the 1970s, my mother and I used to love to go to Christmas church bazaars, where we would buy homemade goodies, crafts and unusual items. By that time, I was married and spending time with my mom was a treat. It was a special outing. At one of the bazaars, we found these adorable angels made of macaroni. To our surprise, my mom’s cousin, Hazel Gray, who was behind the counter, made them. My mother has now been gone 20 years, but every year I hang them on the tree and remember happy times and spending that day with my mom. Our tree is pretty unique — my husband and I have travelled to 74 countries and we always pick up a Christmas tree ornament to remind us of our trip. But these little macaroni angels have a special meaning for me. Gloria Broks, Toronto Small Wonders is an occasional series where Star readers share stories of a special holiday ornament.
