Body found in Rosedale ravine is identified

- ALINA BYKOVA STAFF REPORTER

Toronto police have identified a body found in a Rosedale ravine over the summer as missing transgender woman Alloura Wells.

Wells, 27, was last seen in downtown Toronto in July.

The news comes after a forensics lab examined DNA from the body.

“This person was not easily identified and police sought the assistance of the Centre of Forensic Sciences,” Toronto police wrote in a statement Thursday.

“Because of the possible link between Alloura Wells and this investi- gation, police submitted further information to the Centre of Forensic Sciences, with the assistance of a family member.”

The body was found on Aug. 5 near Rosedale Valley Rd. Several days later, investigators confirmed that the victim was a transgender woman.

Wells’ family reported her disappearance on Nov. 6, but they were allegedly told that the case was not “was not high priority” because Wells had been homeless for a number of years.

“That’s certainly not the proper response from any part of this organization,” Toronto police spokes- person Mark Pugash told the Star.

He added that Supt. Tony Riviere of 51 Division had taken a “personal interest” in Wells’ disappearance and that he had tried reaching out to her family to apologize.

Toronto police said an investigation into the death is ongoing. With files from Brennan Doherty
