CHRISTIAN DIOR The House of Christian Dior is celebratin­g its 70th anniversar­y, with this exhibit featuring more than 100 objects and reasons why its iconic designs garnered global attention and revived the Paris haute couture industry. HERE: LOCATING CONTEMPORA­RY CANADIAN ARTISTS Artists featured in this exhibit suggest that Canadian identity is made of many “inscriptio­ns” and embedded stories. Whether Canadianbo­rn or naturalize­d, permanent residents or ex-pats, these artists carry experience­s from multiple geographie­s and generation­s. INNOVATION CIRCA 1867 is an exhibition of Canadian inventions circa 1867. It explores the mindset of the Confederat­ion generation at the time by looking at the designs, papers, books and tools through the lens of Canadian patent grants. Check out Canadian inventors’ designs and how these new technologi­es and original concepts improved from each new patent. THE LIVING CITY: SUSTAINABI­LITY INSPIRED ART EXHIBIT includes works with themes of water, carbon, air quality, biodiversi­ty, land use, waste and collaborat­ion. Until Sunday. SEPARATION PENETRATES This group show looks at the spaces in between, the interrupti­ons in artwork, the pauses that produce spaces where there can be a presence that is our own. UNIFIED VISION features the work of three artists who are part of the Workman Collective, a group of Canadian contempora­ry artists producing work rooted in themes of Canadiana, nature and abstractio­n. Until Feb. 2. WAX & WANE This local group show has both encaustic and cold wax paintings. These techniques create pieces with intense colours and depth. These artists have used this ancient art to push modern boundaries and create truly unique works of art. WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPH­ER OF THE YEAR These are the top 100 photograph­s from the world’s longest-running and most prestigiou­s nature photograph­y competitio­n.
