Mother believes murdered daughter was ‘hunted’
Man charged with indecent interference with body makes court appearance in Oshawa
The mother of a young pregnant woman whose body parts were found in different areas east of Toronto said Wednesday that she believed her daughter was “hunted.”
Shanan Dionne spoke to reporters after Adam Strong, a 45-year-old charged in the case with indecent interference to a body, made a brief video appearance in an Oshawa, Ont., court.
Police are treating the death of Dionne’s daughter, 18-year-old Rori Hache, as a homicide but have not yet laid murder charges in the case.
An emotional Dionne said she hoped more charges would soon be laid.
“I believe my daughter was hunted; I felt that since day one,” she said. “I am nothing without my daughter, I have nothing without my daughter.”
Dionne noted that Wednesday’s court appearance had been the first time she saw Strong.
“I was absolutely disturbed by what I seen in the courtroom. That man has no emotion,” she said, adding that she doesn’t know about any connection between Hache and Strong. “My daughter was innocent blood.” Dionne said she was in the hospital in August 2017 recovering from injuries sustained in a fire at the family home when Hache disappeared.
On Sept. 11, a fisherman found a torso in a Lake Ontario harbour in Oshawa. By early November, DNA testing came back and linked the torso to the missing teen.
In late December, a worker found “something suspicious” in a basement apartment in Oshawa where Strong is believed to have lived, Durham regional police have said.
That person notified police, who said last week that human remains found in the basement belonged to Hache. They also found a homemade bomb inside the apartment.
Police said they will be combing through the home for a month because there is a large amount of evidence to go through.
Strong returns to court on Jan. 24.
