Voters can reject anyone flouting election rules
Re Ford ignores clerk’s warning about campaigning, Jan. 18 I was dismayed to read your article about Doug Ford ignoring the city clerk’s warning about premature campaigning. I naïvely assumed this was a problem unique to London, Ont., where municipal candidates appear to be deliberately breaking the rules, or certainly the spirit of them. Why does no one at the province seem willing to reform or enforce the Municipal Election Act?
Many things that may be technically legal are not ethical. All municipalities deserve candidates with strong ethics, not those who work the system and barely stay within the law. I encourage all voters to use their vote to send a clear message that such behaviour should not and will not be tolerated. Lincoln McCardle, London
