Spanish midfielder targeted by TFC

Toronto FC is reportedly closing in on a deal with Spanish midfielder Ager Aketxe. The 24-year-old central midfielder debuted with La Liga’s Athletic Bilbao in 2013, but spent part of last season on loan to seconddivision club Cadiz, where he scored five goals. Athletic Bilbao announced Friday it had terminated Aketxe’s contract to allow him to join an unspecified Major League Soccer club. TFC GM Tim Bezbatchenko called Spanish reports saying a deal was already in place “incorrect.”
