IF YOU’RE INTO … FITNESS Astreetcar ride away: Hotel X Toronto, 111 Princes’ Blvd., Toronto

Shooting 29 stories above the grounds of the CNE, the new Hotel X Toronto is the city’s first resort-style hotel. The massive property has something for everyone, including a mini museum, a sprawling sports complex, rooftop pools, and seven restaurants and bars. Woody essential oils waft through the lobby, while a glass walkway at the north-facing entrances houses the archeological remains of the 1840s-built barracks that had previously been paved into a parking lot.

á In the room: Thoughtful touches include French-made L’Occitane soap, a Nespresso machine (if you prefer not to visit the Nespresso Café on the second floor), and nature photography from around the world that the hotel commissioned from Canadian artist Neil Dankoff (his work is also sold in a gallery on the main floor).

á At the restaurants: Hit Maxx’s Kitchen for comforting favourites like fish and chips and flavourful quinoa bowls. Then, head to the three-storey rooftop indoor/outdoor Falcon SkyBar (which opens later this month) for drinks and panoramic views of Lake Ontario.

á Around the corner: Catch a show at Budweiser stage, a game at BMO Field, or stay onsite to make the most of the resort-style amenities. There’s a 90,000-square-foot fitness centre, complete with tennis and squash courts, a golf simulator, leather-finished TechnoGym equipment, a yoga studio, juice bar, and, opening later this year, a 10-room spa. — Caitlin Kenny

IF YOU’RE INTO … GLAMOUR Asubway ride away: The Anndore House, 15 Charles St. E., Toronto

Toronto’s so-called “Mink Mile” attracts revellers with its celebrated glitz, but, until the Anndore opened last month, the district offered little in the way of comfort. The city’s newest boutique hotel has a lock on upscale warmth:113 rooms with a chic pied-à-terre vibe, complete with vintage photography prints, original exposed brick and rainforest showers.

á In the room: Add ambience with your room’s working record player and a robust vinyl library in the lobby. The nod to the building’s jazz bar roots, combined with a custom app that lets you dim the lights and adjust the temperature from bed, is a perfect recipe for a cosy night in.

á At the restaurant: Constantine, the hotel’s Italian-meetsMiddle-Eastern resto from the group behind the wildly popular La Palma, is as warm and inviting as its surrounding digs. The open-concept kitchen produces thoughtful dishes like braised rabbit pappardelle with green olives and — a must-try from the small plates menu — a salty burrata on a bed of peas, asparagus and mint pesto. Nurse a glass of perfectly balanced Tempranillo in the glow of the hand-blown vases all night.

á Around the corner: Rent a cruiser bike from the hotel and zip over to the Bata Shoe Museum. Peep more than 200 heels then scoop up your own discounted designer pair at the newly inaugurated Nordstrom Rack, which, joyfully (or maybe regrettably) is one block from the hotel. — Jillian Vieira

IF YOU’RE INTO … WELLNESS AVIA ride away: The Walper Hotel, 20 Queen St. S., Kitchener

Built in 1893, and extensively renovated in 2016, the Walper Hotel pulls off a neat trick: It’s at once traditional and cool — a welcoming haven for travellers as well as a HQ for the city’s glitterati. Both varieties of visitor congregate at the artfilled second-floor lounge, which is easily the most Instagram-friendly spot in Kitchener.

á In the room: As befits the boutique hotel spirit, every suite is unique—and, as befits the spirit of modern luxury, every suite is also bright, airy and stocked with artisanal local amenities. The delicious coffee — small-batch roasted and transparently sourced—is from Kitchener’s Smile Tiger, while Cambridge’s Buck Naked Soap Company provides handcraft- ed bars in creative scent pairings such as anise and charcoal.

á At the restaurant: Head downstairs to TWH Social which offers a cosy chic vibe along with a standout cocktail list created by award-winning mixologist Melissa Baumunk. The Hive Alive — a heady mix of Hpnotiq, gin, kombucha and salted honey syrup — pairs well with the dinner menu’s elevated classics, including the Heritage Greens Salad spiked with roasted cauliflower and toasted hazelnuts. For the ultimate sweet finish, the Espresso Blackout Cake is (almost) worth losing consciousness over.

á Around the corner: After breakfast, hit up a class at Queen Street Yoga (a pass is included with your Walper stay), then browse the blooms at Living Fresh, a jewel-box floral studio that also sells chic giftables — think Sloane Tea and boutique candles from Vancouver’s Woodlot. — Laura deCarufel
