TFC suffers seven-minute twitch

Reds can’t dig out of early hole in road loss to Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, MASS.— Cristian Penilla scored twice in the first seven minutes and the New England Revolution held off Toronto FC 3-2 on Saturday night.

Sebastian Giovinco pulled defending MLS Cup champion Toronto within a goal on a penalty kick in the 89th minute. But before the following kick off, the Italian grabbed Wilfried Zahibo’s face and was sent off for violent conduct.

Penilla opened the scoring for the Revs (5-3-2) in the fourth minute with a run up the mid- Sebastian Giovinco scored on a late penalty, then received a quick red card. dle of the central defence and a straightaw­ay finish after Teal Bunbury’s takeaway and feed from near midfield.

Penilla pounced on an errant pass deep in Toronto’s territory and sent it quickly back at net to catch goalkeeper Alex Bono out of position in the seventh.

Bunbury made it 3-0 in the 46th minute with his fifth goal of the season, a right-footed blast into far corner.

Antonio Delamea conceded an own goal in the 55th minute to give Toronto (2-6-1) its first goal. Union 2, Impact 0: Cory Burke and Haris Medunjanin scored Philadelph­ia’s first two away goals of the season and the Union beat Montreal with each side down a man.

Burke headed in a pass from Raymon Gaddis in the 43rd minute, and David Accam fed Medunjanin for a goal off the left post in the 88th.

Burke was sent off in the 58th minute, and Montreal’s Daniel Lovitz was ejected in the 67th.

Montreal (3-8-0) has lostsix of seven games. Crew 3, Fire 0: Gyasi Zardes scored twice to take the MLS scoring lead and Columbus beat Chicago.

Zardes drew a penalty in the 27th minute when Chicago’s Kevin Ellis grabbed him from behind by the arm. Federico Higuain opened the scoring a minute later, converting from the spot with a rising shot into the top of the net.

Niko Hansen started a counter in the 50th minute with a takeaway behind midfield and went all the way to about five yards from goal to set up Zardes, who finished with a leftfooted stab to double the lead.

Zardes added his league-leading eighth goal of the season in the 70th minute. Mike Grella dummied Ricardo Clark’s cross to give Zardes space to finish from a yard behind the spot.

Columbus improved to 6-3-3, and Chicago dropped to 3-5-2. FC Dallas 3, Galaxy 2: Roland Lamah scored two goals and Mauro Diaz had three assists to help FC Dallas beat Los Angeles.

Maximilian­o Urruti rifled a right-footer inside the near post past a diving David Bingham to give FC Dallas (4-1-4) a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute.
