DONALD VS. THE WORLD

-

This photo shared by German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s office has captivated social media. “G7 summed up in one photo,” Twitter user Greg Hogben said. Here’s a who’s who of the photo Twitter couldn’t stop gawking at: 1) Larry Kudlow, U.S. National Economic Council. Has called Trump’s focus on imposing steep tariffs evidence he is “sticking to his guns.” 2) Theresa May, United Kingdom PM (behind Kudlow). Clashed with Trump over his suggestion that Russia be readmitted to the group. 3) Emmanuel Macron, President of France. Said he had a “very direct and open” talk with Trump about trade, seemingly downplaying a Twitter spat after Trump slapped tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum. 4) Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Ger- many. Pushed for a “forum to defuse escalating trade tensions” with the U.S. as world leaders aimed to convince Trump to back off around tariff demands. 5) Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan. Was expected to keep trying to impress upon Trump the military risk North Korea poses to Japan. 6) John Bolton, U.S. National Security Adviser. Has been accused of jeopardizing the meeting with Kim by suggesting a “Libya model” be used towards denuclearization efforts. 7) Donald Trump, U.S. President. Arrived late, called for Russia to be brought back into the group, threatened leaders with penalties if they didn’t reduce trade restrictions, then left early to prepare for summit with Kim Jong Un.
