Man seriously injured in Tuesday shooting
A man in his 20s is in serious condition after a shooting in downtown Toronto early Tuesday.
Toronto police responded to reports of multiple gunshots just before 2:45 a.m. near King St. and Portland Ave., said police spokesperson Gary Long.
When emergency services arrived, the victim was found outside the Lost and Found nightclub with a lower body injury.
He was rushed to hospital on an emergency run with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
No suspect information has been released.
Police said they’ve located a white SUV that was seen fleeing the scene.
They believe the vehicle was struck by a bullet.
The occupants of the vehicle were uninjured and are co-operating, police said.
The intersection was closed for police investigation, but has since reopened.
The shooting comes after a deadly Canada Day long weekend in the city.
Jahvante Smart, 21, and Ernest Modekwe, 28, also known as Smoke Dawg and Koba Prime, were shot and killed outside Cube nightclub on Queen St. W. Saturday night.
A woman was also injured in the shooting, but is expected to recover.
On Sunday evening, four people were injured in another shooting in Kensington Market. In a statement Monday afternoon, Mayor John Tory said he expects police to “do everything possible to root out the thugs responsible for this violence and send a message that we will not tolerate this reckless disregard for life in our city.”
“The unacceptable gun violence we’ve seen in the last few weeks has left me incredibly angry, but resolved to work with the police to stamp it out,” Tory said in statement Monday afternoon.
