Ravine search continues at property linked to McArthur

Police return to site as coroner examines human remains discovered at Leaside home

Toronto police returned Tuesday to a Leaside property linked to alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur, resuming their digging for more human remains.

Last week, police launched a second, more extensive investigation at a Mallory Cres. home where McArthur had done some landscaping work, and found more human remains in a ravine behind the property on the first day.

More remains were found Thursday, the second day of their search.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted by the Ontario coroner’s office.

It’s not known when those results will be released to the public.

The speed with which the remains were found was remarkable even to the lead investigator.

“We had anticipated being here for weeks, and when we found them that quickly it was a bit of a surprise,” Det. Sgt Hank Idsinga told reporters last week.

Investigators suspended activities for the weekend, Idsinga said.

Police will continue to dig as long as they get reactions from cadaver dogs at the site.

McArthur, 66, is charged with firstdegree murder in the deaths of Majeed Kayhan, Selim Esen, Andrew Kinsman, Dean Lisowick, Soroush Mahmudi, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Abdulbasir Faizi and Kirushnakumar Kanagaratnam. Their deaths range from 2010 to 2017.

Kayhan’s remains haven’t been found. The remains of the other seven victims were found earlier this year in planters at the Mallory Cres. home, shortly after McArthur’s arrest in January.

He is scheduled to appear in court again July 23.
