But in the last two months, he’s slashing .304/.355/.529 with an OPS of .884, to go along with seven home runs and 18 RBIs. He comes up against stiff competition in the Red Sox’s J.D.
Martinez, the American League’s starting designated hitter at next week’s all-star game. He has 28 home runs and 77 RBIs heading into play on Wednesday.
NEED TO KNOW: Marco Estrada hopes to make his next start on Saturday despite missing his last outing with a mild glute strain; the Jays have yet to announce who would replace Estrada if he is unavailable. Reliever Ryan Tepera (elbow) could return during this series after throwing 20 pitches off the mound in a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to reports out of Atlanta earlier this week; he went on the disabled list on June 30.
ON DECK: All-star festivities, followed by three home games against the Baltimore Orioles, starting on Friday.
