But in the last two months, he’s slashing .304/.355/.529 with an OPS of .884, to go along with seven home runs and 18 RBIs. He comes up against stiff competitio­n in the Red Sox’s J.D.

Martinez, the American League’s starting designated hitter at next week’s all-star game. He has 28 home runs and 77 RBIs heading into play on Wednesday.

NEED TO KNOW: Marco Estrada hopes to make his next start on Saturday despite missing his last outing with a mild glute strain; the Jays have yet to announce who would replace Estrada if he is unavailabl­e. Reliever Ryan Tepera (elbow) could return during this series after throwing 20 pitches off the mound in a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to reports out of Atlanta earlier this week; he went on the disabled list on June 30.

ON DECK: All-star festivitie­s, followed by three home games against the Baltimore Orioles, starting on Friday.
