Police have identified the victim of an early morning shooting on the Danforth as Danny Morales, 35, of Toronto.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. at Danforth and Langford Aves., between the Pape and Donlands subway stations. Morales was found lying on the sidewalk without vital signs. Paramedics performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead on scene.

“Danny was such a good guy, the violence in our city needs to end now,” Katie Jeanes, a friend of Morales, told the Star. “People are too quick to shoot someone nowadays. So now what about his family and his children that are left without a father? It’s horrible.”

Hours after the Danforth shooting, another man, 32, was killed in a separate shooting near Jane St. and Weston Rd., police said.

Morales and that man are Toronto’s 64th and 65th homicide victims of 2018.

Police have arrested Jorge Jose, 27, of Toronto in connection with Morales’s death. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

Anna Zhony, a bartender at Maple Leafs Sports Bar & Grill which is next to where Morales was shot, said she was concerned the violence could affect area businesses. The incident took place a month after two people were killed and 12 others were hurt in a mass shooting on the Danforth.

“This is really too bad,” she said. “I think nobody likes the shootings. I just don’t understand what’s going on.”

Police ask anyone with information to contact the homicide unit at 416-8087400. The victim of the shooting near Jane St. and Weston Rd. was shot around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, found in a white car with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
