Blue Jays: Tigers for openers in 2019, Royals on Canada Day

-

The Blue Jays will open next season on March 28 at home against the Detroit Tigers.

They will mark 30 years at the Rogers Centre when they host the New York Yankees on June 5, the anniversary of the first game at the ballpark previously known as the SkyDome.

MLB released the full schedule Wednesday, with the regular season starting March 20 and 21 in Tokyo between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners. The domestic opening day is scheduled for March 28, the earliest in history excluding special season openers abroad.

After four against the Tigers, the Jays will host the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game series. Then it’s a 16-game stretch including road series in Cleveland, Boston, Minnesota and Oakland, with a home set against the Tampa Bay Rays in the middle. They’ll be in Boston for the Red Sox’s home opener on April 9.

The Jays’ interleague schedule, , a total of 20 games, includes home series against the San Francisco Giants (April 23 and 24), San Diego Padres (May 24 to 26), Arizona Diamondbacks (June 7 to 9) and Atlanta Braves (Aug. 27 and 28).

The Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, Red Sox (closing out Victoria Day weekend) and Padres will visit the Rogers Centre in May. The White Sox are in town on Mother’s Day (May 12).

On Canada Day, the Jays will host the Kansas City Royals. Toronto’s regular season will end with a six-game homestand against the Orioles (Sept. 23 to 25) and Rays (Sept. 27 to 29).
