Election results prove disappointing

-

Now that the Toronto election is over, it would be a service for the Star to reprint a smattering of the gloom and doom comments by the ‘birds of a feather’ experts on what we were told was an ‘impossible situation.’ Specifically, I would like to reread the comments made by the city clerk who opined that an election with 25 wards was simply not possible. The clerk should know. Maybe the city clerk will resign and as a show of good faith, renounce the inflation indexed pension which we are told is justified for competent unbiased service to the community. One thing I find frightening regarding the election results are the number of votes the far right racist candidates received. Faith Goldy came third in Toronto out of 35 people who ran for mayor. It was worse in Mississauga where a man charged with hate crimes came second with 13 per cent of the vote. Considering only 45 per cent of Mississauga’s population is Caucasian, and not all vote, basically one in three voted for a known racist. We need to pay attention to these numbers because our economy is doing well right now. When times get tough, as they always do at some point, how many votes will these racist candidates get? I hope the Star will look into why these far right racists get so many votes. So ...?

Brown has simply moved from one pig trough, to another — albeit smaller — pig trough.

Has this guy EVER held-down a REAL job in his entire lifetime ...?! Why is a sitting mayor who runs for re-election allowed to endorse candidates? A municipal election is supposed to be partisan free, but when the mayor endorses specific candidates is he not simply trying to create his own party within the council? So that he can accomplish what he wants to do regardless of whether it is good for the city overall? (Like the Scarborough subway for example.) In a couple of races, John Tory did some last minute endorsements which might very well have swayed the vote in his chosen candidates favour, thus giving him a potential slim majority on council. This doesn't seem right.
