A week in which a kitten earns the name Sticky and a flatulent felon pleads guilty
STUCK:
A five-week-old kitten, found glued to a road in Oregon. KPTV reported Chuck Hawley rescued the kitten, which had some sort of glue on its paws, neck and tail, which a veterinarian said was intentionally put on its paws. The lucky kitty was expected to recover. Hawley will adopt it and name it Sticky.
SORRY:
The name of the song in the middle of a dispute. Rapper Nicki Minaj is being sued for copyright infringement for her song. Folk singer Tracy Chapman accuses her of appropriating parts of the lyrics and melody from her song “Baby, Can I Hold You” — without permission, CNN reports.
RIGHT TIME:
An art student’s sale of a solid gold necklace to rapper Lil Wayne. Joy Bonfield-Colombara of London was close to dropping out of the Royal College of Art, the BBC reports. But an email from a friend of the rapper led to his purchase of the gold pendant — which is in the shape of Lil Wayne’s face.
PETULANT:
Egyptian authorities, toward an author and publisher. A book by economist Abdel-Khaleq Farouq and his publisher, Ibrahim el-Khateib — Is Egypt Really a Poor Country? — challenged economic policies of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. They’ve been jailed and accused of spreading “fake news,” a lawyer said.
UNATTACHED:
Thousands of people in Buffalo, to a sculpture of Martin Luther King Jr. A community activist says he’s gathered 6,000 signatures in a petition, aiming to replace a bust of King that some say doesn’t resemble the man. He wants a new one: “Enough of the symbolism, we want realism.”
NOT SORRY:
A British official who offended with a tweet. At least, no apology was immediately forthcoming after a top adviser to former Brexit secretary David Davis called an 11-year-old a “pathetic cretin.” It was in reaction to a tweet of the child’s bed covering — decorated as an EU flag. The boy’s stepdad sought an apology.
RIGHT PLACE:
Improbably, a major highway just west of L.A. A single-engine airplane crashlanded and burned as the plane struck the centre divider of U.S. 101. The pilot wasn’t hurt, and no vehicles were involved. The AT-6 plane was painted with WWII-era German air force markings.
FLATULENT:
A man who pleaded guilty to gun and drug charges. Sean A. Sykes Jr., 25, became noteworthy after court documents described his behaviour during a Kansas City police interview. “Mr. Sykes leaned to one side of his chair and released a loud fart before answering with the address.”
