‘Open for business’ not for the people

-

Re Premier Doug Ford urges businesses to rally behind him in fight against $15 minimum wage, Oct. 26 After working in the business world for 40+ years, I think this initiative by our newly elected provincial government is a new low in idiotic decision making when it comes to wasting our tax dollars.

Do the decision makers in this government actually think that this promotion is going to convince business leaders driving into our province to invest in Ontario. This is simply another Ford stunt for his base which sounds a lot like someone else down south and that is very scary. Mark Christensen, Whitby So Doug Ford is posting signs saying “Ontario Open For Business.” Has Doug considered what potential business owners might require in order to relocate to Ontario? I suggest one of the many things they might want would be a well-educated and skilled workforce.

Will Ontario be able to offer that? Wouldn’t that require a well funded school system with buildings in good repair, with sufficient staff that had all the support and tools they needed, like education assistants, admin staff, books, pens and other materials? Maybe Doug should learn to connect the dots — there’s more to governing than sound bites, slogans and a manic grin. Ian Burns, Toronto Off we go again with Ford not getting what he wants without pushback. Not the “clause” this time but, as he tries to whip up support from business to keep wages low, it is obvious that he never was “for the people.”

He will twist and shout his words and blame others all the while thinking that the people made him something special. The “people” think they made a mistake. Ernie Ilson, Mississauga
