Not everyone should vote
Re Turnout made elections a farce, Reader letter, Nov. 1
I disagree with Robert Bahlieda, who claimed that “the recent municipal and provincial elections were a farce of democracy” because of low voter turnout.
In Canada, citizens age 18 or more are eligible to vote, but not all take advantage of this opportunity. Nor should they. Many people know little or nothing about politics — and don’t care. Why should their uninformed votes be equal to the vote of those who take the time and interest to familiarize themselves with the issues and the candidates? Ivan Brown, Toronto
