Tommy John shelves McCullers

Houston right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. will miss all of next season following Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The 25-year-old, 10-6 with a 3.86 ERA this year while striking out 142 in 128 1/3 innings, had the operation Tuesday. He was10-4 before the all-star break, then went on the DL from Aug. 5 to Sept. 24. He had a 1.80 ERA in five playoff relief outings.
