Milton man charged with human trafficking

- MARJAN ASADULLAH STAFF REPORTER

Toronto police have charged a Milton man with human trafficking and related charges after he allegedly forced two women to work in the sex trade in the GTA and throughout Ontario and Quebec.

Police allege he forced the women, whom they say he sexually assaulted on multiple occasions, to follow his rules and hand over all theirs earnings.

Police also allege the man used deception, false promises, intimidation and fear to control the women.

On Wednesday, police with the Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking Enforcement Team raided three locations in Toronto, Milton and Chamberlain Township, Ont., with the assistance of Halton Regional Police and the OPP.

Kalib James Rahi, 31, of Milton, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault; two counts each of procuring to provide sexual services; advertising another person for sexual services; trafficking in persons by recruiting, transporting, and harbouring; exercising control by directing and influence one’s movements; financial and material benefit from trafficking in persons; and trafficking in a controlled substance schedule.

Rahi was also charged with one count each of threatening bodily harm, threatening harm to an animal, extortion and possession of the proceeds of crime.

He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.

In a Friday news release, police said they encourage anyone affected by human trafficking to come forward, adding that everyone will have access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to proceed with criminal charges.
