Critic’s $900 meals could feed hundreds

Re My four-hour $900 dinner, Nov. 24

Amy Pataki’s almost glowing (wallpaper paste, forgetful waiters) review of her $900 (for two) gustatory trip conjures thoughts of those who dine on more Dickensian fare.

Missions around the city say they can serve a good meal for about $4.50 (200 for the price of these two meals, to save you the math).

Admittedly, the entrée is unlikely to be cooked sous vide, truffles are in short supply, no one can ever find the silver bread tongs and the “staff” (aka volunteers) don’t bow when directing you to the washroom.

Perhaps it is just the wrong time of year for this kind of review. Paul Collier, Toronto
