My hometown has grown, for better and worse

-

I have recently returned to Toronto after living in other parts of Canada and the world for the past 15 years.

As I am getting reoriented, I am admiring with awe many of the ways in which the city has changed and grown, while also experiencing deep concerns about other aspects of the city.

On the positive side, I find people to be friendlier than I remember, which is quite something considering the increase in population.

On the concern side, I am aware of the increased number of people living on the streets alongside outrageously high housing costs. This must surely indicate a widening gap between rich and poor. I wonder where that is going to lead us over time.

Another concern is the reliability of the TTC, particularly the subway. I have experienced more delays than I recall. It is tedious and frustrating.

I have no solutions and only hope that officials are putting their heads and hearts together to help Toronto to continue developing as the great city it is.

Glad to be home. Jeff Feldman, Toronto
